Another member of the Olympic Coven, Jasper Hale is one of Carlisle and Esme Cullen's adoptive children. Because of his resemblance to Rosalie, Jasper took on her last name so the pair could pass for twins while living in Forks. He has a violent past, and he has spent the shortest time with the family, so he has the toughest time of all the Olympic Coven with resisting human blood.
In New Moon, Jasper lost control and tried to attack Bella after she accidentally cut herself. He was unable to resist the scent of her blood and needed to be fiercely restrained by brothers Edward and Emmett. Though no serious damage occurred, Jasper's pride was badly wounded, and the family was forced to leave Forks to protect Bella from the dangers of living in such close contact with vampires. (less)
