Born This Way" is a song by American recording artist Lady Gaga, from her second studio album of the same name. Released as the album's lead single on February 11, 2011, the song was written by Lady Gaga and Jeppe Laursen, and it was produced by Gaga, Laursen, Fernando Garibay, and DJ White Shadow.

"Born This Way" received positive reception from critics, being described as a "club-ready anthem", although it caused international controversy due to its accompanying sound similarities to Madonna's hit "Express Yourself". It reached number one in 17 countries, including Austria, Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland. In the United States, it became her third single to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Additionally, "Born This Way" is the 1000th number-one song on the Hot 100 and only the nineteenth to debut at number-one, being the first song in more than 13 years to defend the debut top position more weeks, spending a total of six weeks atop the Hot 100. In the UK Singles Chart it debuted and peaked at number-three. It is the fastest-selling single in iTunes history, selling one million copies in five days.

"Born This Way" was premiered at the 53rd Grammy Awards, where Gaga performed after coming out of a vessel. The song was also performed during the last leg of her The Monster Ball Tour, in North America. Singer Katy Perry, internet sensation Maria Aragon and the Glee cast have also covered the song.

The music video for the song was directed by Nick Knight and by Gaga herself. Lasting more than seven minutes, it premiered Monday, February 28 at 11:00 am EST (4:00 p.m UTC) on Vevo. It features Rick Genest (Zombie Boy) as well as tributes to Madonna and Michael Jackson. The video commences with the Manifesto of Mother Monster, the prologue, in which Gaga talks about a new race, born without prejudices and concludes with the view of a city populated by this race.

Gaga released a country version of the song on Youtube dubbed 'Born This Way (The Country Road Version)' on March 25.  (less)
